{"id":2934,"date":"2015-09-26T13:26:55","date_gmt":"2015-09-26T16:26:55","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/brockerhoff.net\/blog\/?p=2934"},"modified":"2016-02-03T13:25:24","modified_gmt":"2016-02-03T16:25:24","slug":"quay-is-now-legacy","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/brockerhoff.net\/blog\/2015\/09\/26\/quay-is-now-legacy\/","title":{"rendered":"Quay is now legacy"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>If you&#8217;re a <a href=\"\/quay\/\" target=\"_blank\">Quay<\/a> user, there&#8217;s good and bad news.<\/p>\n<p>The good news is, I finally had time to test it on OS X 10.11 (El Capitan) \u2014\u00a0not the final version, but the GM developer release \u2014 and it still works!<\/p>\n<p>The bad news is, it works by coincidence\u00a0and not fully.\u00a0While\u00a0I still use it myself on 10.10 (Yosemite), I don&#8217;t use all of its functions and it turns out that dragging a Finder saved search icon into the Dock stopped working some time in the past; they probably updated the format either in 10.10 or\u00a010.9.<\/p>\n<p>In 10.11 there are new security restrictions on 3rd-party applications getting information like memory and CPU usage of other processes; therefore, Quay&#8217;s popup for running applications will show only the application version.<\/p>\n<p>Unfortunately, Quay is a 32-bit application that depends on now-obsolete Carbon APIs to do its magic, and these things are all going away. I can no longer compile it on current versions of Xcode, and OS X will Real Soon Now\u2122 be 64-bit only.<\/p>\n<p>My <a href=\"\/products.html\" target=\"_blank\">products page<\/a> has been revised to show Quay as \u201clegacy\u201d software and I can no longer support it on newer systems or even promise that it will work at all on these. If you are a registered user, my apologies.<\/p>\n<p>In other news, we were away for an extended trip to Eastern Europe and Asia.
