Akwan (a <a href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Tupi-Guarani\">Tup\u00ed-Guaran\u00ed<\/a> word meaning &#8220;fast&#8221;) is a company founded by <a href=\"http:\/\/www.akwan.cl\/Akwan_People_Port.htm\">several of my former colleagues<\/a> at the CS department of the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.dcc.ufmg.br\">Federal University of Minas Gerais<\/a>. An earlier effort by some of the same people, the Miner search engine, was bought out by UOL (a large Brazilian content provider) some years ago.
