{"id":1738,"date":"2006-04-29T22:25:50","date_gmt":"2006-04-30T01:25:50","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/brockerhoff.net\/bb\/viewtopic.php?p=1760"},"modified":"2010-05-08T19:59:02","modified_gmt":"2010-05-08T22:59:02","slug":"miksang","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/brockerhoff.net\/blog\/2006\/04\/29\/miksang\/","title":{"rendered":"Miksang"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>I&#8217;ve uploaded a couple more pictures to <a href=\"http:\/\/www.flickr.com\/photos\/rainerbrockerhoff\/\">my Flickr page<\/a> and added a new tag to most of what&#8217;s there &#8211; <a href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Miksang\">Miksang<\/a>:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>Miksang is a Tibetan word meaning &#8220;Good Eye&#8221; and represents a form of contemplative photography based on the Dharma Art teachings of <a href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Ch\u00f6gyam_Trungpa\">Ch\u00f6gyam Trungpa<\/a>, in which the eye is in sync with the contemplative mind.<\/p>\n<p>&#8230;Miksang involve nothing fancy, no special setup, just a visual capture, in the proper state of mind, of everyday&#8217;s reality.<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>Well, I&#8217;ve been interested in Buddhism &#8211; especially Zen and Tibetan Buddhism &#8211; for many years; I have several of Trungpa&#8217;s books; and I&#8217;ve even visited <a href=\"http:\/\/www.karmecholing.org\/\">Karm\u00ea Ch\u00f6ling<\/a>, the Trungpa-founded meditation center in Vermont, about a decade ago.<\/p>\n<p>But I&#8217;d never heard of this Miksang thing until a few days ago, when I visited a friend and showed him my Flickr photos, and he exclaimed &#8220;but that&#8217;s Miksang!&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Well, after reading up on it, I have to agree that most photos on <a href=\"http:\/\/www.miksang.net\/participants.html\">Miksang galleries<\/a> remind me very much of my own photos, and the descriptions I&#8217;ve read on the process are also quite familiar. Not that I want to claim undue credit or extra specialness for these pictures&#8230; but I feel they belong somehow.<\/p>\n<p>There&#8217;s a <a href=\"http:\/\/www.miksang.net\/Berkeley%202006\/Berkeley%20Level%20Two.html\">Miksang class<\/a> in Berkeley which, unfortunately, partially overlaps <a href=\"http:\/\/developer.apple.com\/wwdc\/\">WWDC<\/a>, which I can&#8217;t miss. Drat.
